Interview with Georgie Rose – Peace Mix Mic Relay Joint Winner

September 12, 2012 -

We caught up with 17 year old Georgie Rose after her first performance at Nottingham‘s NGY MyPlace event, organised by YMCA Digital. She went on to become the joint winner of our Peace Mix Mic Relay along with Ricky Flemming – check out our interview with Georgie below, she had some inspiring words to share about peace and her first time in the studio!

How did you find out about Peace Mix? A friend of mine let me know about it and I decided to head down.

How does it feel to win? Awesome, just awesome!

How long have you been playing music and how did you start? I’ve always played the harmonica – there’s always one in my pocket! I’ve been playing guitar for about 2 years, singing for about a year, and writing for about a year. I just started to play and it became a passion.

Biggest influences? I love Jonny Cash, and I like Jake Bugg at the moment, he’s amazing, he’s going to go far. Um… I listen to so many different types of music, and I like anything that has some emotion or quality in it, something inspiring.

What does peace mean to you? Unity and people coming together, whether it be through music or in some other way. It’s about having a passion and sharing it, and wanting to make the world better.

How has music helped or changed your life? I found it hard to express myself, and music has helped so much. The first time I wrote a song it kinda opened the gate to so much more. It’s helped me become a lot more confident – I can go on stage and show people what I feel and they get it.

What did you think about your first time in the studio? It’s amazing! Really awesome, what’s here is fantastic. These places are so important – it’s things like this that keep kids safe and keep the country running how it should be running. I feel like there are so many people out there who are doing things to help and giving their time and they’re the people that are really important. Places like this are telling the world that this is where kids belong – they belong in a safe environment. The more places like this grow the world will become better.

What would you say to local kids to encourage them to get involved? I’d say to them definitely get involved – it’s places like this that give you opportunities, that grow your talents and help you find out who you really are.

Where do you see yourself going with your music? I definitely want to do it as a career, even if it’s not making money out of it, I love it. It makes me happy.

Any last words? Thank you to everyone, especially the people who run this place [NGY MyPlace and YMCA Digital] – it was just amazing seeing everyone coming together today. Thank you!
